8 Runescape Scams To Avoid

As everybody knows scamming is the biggest problem with RuneScape, however, people are warned all the time about these Runescape scams and I’m here to narrow down as many signs of scammers as I can to make life in RuneScape easier for you.

Armor Trimming: (Non-member *unlikely member*)
This is a very popular scam used by many and is seriously out-dated and useless. Although I’m sure you agree when I say you can never be too careful when it comes to your items. The number one thing you must know is armors cannot be trimmed, they are a reward given to members for completing clue scrolls of various levels. If anyone offers to trim your armor do not respond and report them with the report abuse button and make sure you select the appropriate abuse as you enter their name.

Jagex Impersonators: (Non-member & Member)
This is another old but popular scam mostly with non-members where a normal player will say he is a moderator and really isn’t. What they do is ask for your password to make you a moderator or use an excuse that they will ban you if you don’t let them look at it. At this point what you need to know is that Jagex will NEVER ask for your password they have access whenever they want it, if your going to be banned they wont warn you especially not personally, and they bare a silver crown if they are a moderator and a gold crown if they are jagex staff. As soon as you find a player who claims to be a staff of jagex go straight to the report abuse button and select the appropraite abuse as you enter their name.

Lurers: (Outdated)
These scammers are the more recently expanding scammers that try to intice you with great offers for your items, telling you they will pay double for your items or sell you an item for much less its normal value if you come to them. How to avoid being scammed by these guys is simple, merely ask if they will come within safe distance from the wildy or to the nearest bank and if they refuse or say they can’t stay much longer to hurry and make the trade then merely walk away and remove them from your list. There is no rule against this form of scam.

Deep Wilderness Lurers: (Outdated)
These scammers are going to try to get at your items using other items, such as your d chain would be replaced by torag legs if you died and had the maximum amount of items in your inventory. Please note that RuneScape see the barrows armors as rarer and worth more then dragon armors and phats ect. Mostly these scammers target one person and have a decoy to join them to make you think it was just random people. The best way to know if thats what they are out to do is if they say they want you to use your rare items but offer you to take only 3 so you don’t lose them. If you go to bank and they refuse your company without those items then turn back and if you absolutely want to do it DO NOT PICK UP ANYTHING IN THE WILDERNESS. There is no rule against this scam.

Normal Scammers: (Non-member & Member)
These guys are the most popular form of scammers in RuneScape. Basicly what they do is try to pull out their items making you think your getting a good deal counting on you clicking fastly to get that awesome deal before they come to their senses and deny the trade. I urge you to slowly make trades even if it risks them denying the trade because I’m sure you know its better to be safe then sorry.Another way these popular scammers trick you is by trying to replace k’s with 4’s to make the price seem the same, this is where your eyesight comes in, pay attention to their trades and even if you click okay the first time, pay attention at the second window in order to insure it was a safe trade even if it means losing the trade with that person.

Runescape Item Scammers: (Non-member & Member)
Much like normal scammers item scammers will try to remove certain amounts of cash and items but these popular scammers try to trick you by saying an item is rare and worth a lot of cash when its really worthless. Now jagex has made certain items untradable because of this but there are still items that people use to sell for more profit. Although it is a flawed scam and most people never fall for it, it is still a good idea to check on prices of all things even if they are not accurate they may come closer to your real price. If you run across someone trying to put an item off as soemthing its not by saying its better then others like it please click the report abuse button and select the appropraite abuse as you enter their name.

Net Dates: (Non-member & Member)
Now no one likes someone asking random people online to date them, now net dating is popular in RuneScape but if your going to do it then make sure that they aren’t in it for the items, before you ask them out or accept their offer please test them by saying you don’t give away items to anybody and if they say thats not why they asked then sure give them a shot but be on your guard and if they ask to borrow something say no. Sometimes they try to pressure you into it by saying “Well if you loved me you would let me borrow them” at this point the appropraite response would be “Well if you loved me then you wouldn’t ask for my items” and there are many combinations to that which you can use in defense just don’t get into a relationship with someone who is in it for the items.

False Friends and Hacked Beggars:
(Non-member & Member)
Now i’m sure everybody can recall a time when a friend or few have claimed they were banned or hacked and even perhaps scammed and ask for your items or cash to help them out. This is even seen with net dates. However do not give in to these demands they aren’t your friend if they expect you to give up your things to replace theirs, it is wisest to remove these people from your friends list or say now and thats their only warning or risk losing your friendship.

This article was written about 6 months ago, so yeah a lot of them are outdated.

    Runescape Scams Says:

There is also the Runescape Item Duplicating Scam that many Runescape Scammers like to try.

This is probably the most annoying scam if you fall for it. There are two ways someone can do this scam. One way they can do it is if they tell you they found out the secret of item duplicating. (One time somebody actually did find the secret but it will almost never happen again) One way they do it is they say trade the item and they will duplicate it. If you give a low valued item they will go to the bank and get another one of your items and give it back to you to build up your confidence like they duplicated your item. They will expect you to give something big now so if you did they will take it and log out. You are stuck there wondering about what happened with one less item. The other way this scam can work is that they say to duplicate your items all you have to do is drop your items and press Alt+F4. This will close the internet and by the time you realize what happened and log back into runescape, they already took your item and have left. To avoid this scam you just need to tell the scammer it is impossible to duplicate items and report them for item scamming.

    chad the gre Says:

it is impossible to hack ppls accounts cos im a hacker and when i first played this game i tried to hack accounts but i couldnt and just to let u know i rarely fail when it come to hacking so know one can hack now im a lvl 56 player in full saradomin armour and i did that all without hacking so just letting u know good luck with everything

    chad the gre Says:

    but ppl can still scam

    John Brown Says:

All outdated, but to be fair, you can usually trust people you know IRL, such as close friends and family.

As for the duplicating scam, alt+ F4 doesn’t work with firefox if you have multiple tabs open, though they’ve changed the game to keep all keystokes internally, like a full screen game does.

    i wanna bea baller Says:

    Runescapé is overratéed Says:

feburary the 28th i went down to varrock hoping for a couple of noobs to go into wildy and i saw a pure cooker saying he was the best meanwhile who he was gloating too had 126 cb and all the skillcapes and hoods and the noob said he wants his account and said he know a mod who would ban him and that he was a mod. i said hey, you! u no silver crown u no mod! he said YEH?! well then pwn me in wildy. i had alot of pleasure in doing that :P i took out my hitpoint cape and hood , my d chain , granite body , granite legs , blue phat and expensive things just to show him my wealth ;). i PWNED him in 2 hits! turned out he had 13 hp!!! lol i reported him and took his stuff (13.6mil gp ,abyssal whip, obby shield, obby maul and rune legs)(wow it turned out he wuz rich :P)

    P13808 Says:

    Most of theese are obsolote.
    No wildy anymore
    It says the item value
    unfair trades are impossible
the only ppl who fall for this are n00bs with no stuff

    dumbasses Says:

I apluad thee, dumbass “Runescape is Overrated” because you tried to kill somebody when BH was out…. dumbass, good job pl0xenkamen.

    i almost got hacked Says:

u forgot one. the membership hack. this in my opinion is the most predictable hack. But you are always at risk for this when your on free worlds.

The hacker will ask if you want to be their friend. Then they will say something along the lines of ” hey, my mom say that every one on my friend list can be a member.” then they will ask u for your username and password. the oldest trick in the book
