Runescape Money Making

Easy Moneymaking For New F2P Runescape Players

One of the easiest ways to make money in Runescape is just within your grasp.  All it takes is level 30 smithing, a few thousand coins, and, optionally, enough mining skill to mine iron and or coal.  Before you can get to the real moneymaker, you must first reach level 30 smithing.

Leveling Up

This is assuming you’re at level 1 in mining, and at level 1 in smithing.  First, move to the mine directly south of Lumbridge with a pickaxe (preferably an iron one) and an empty inventory, wield the pickaxe if you’re high enough level, in order to free up inventory space.  Begin mining copper and tin in equal amounts, and bank in Lumbridge when your inventory becomes full.  Tip: Copper is orange, Tin is silver

Every once in awhile, you may take a break from mining, and smelt the ores that you’ve collected.  It’s best to do it all in one go, since the toll to Al Kharid is 10 coins each time you pass it (unless you’ve done the Prince Ali quest).  Go to the Al Kharid bank and withdraw copper and tin in equal amounts, and go to the smelter a bit north of the bank.  Smelt it all into bronze bars, and bank it.  Rinse and repeat.

Currently, each copper ore is worth 120 gp, and each tin ore is worth about 90 gp.  Each bronze bar is worth 350 gold pieces, earning you 140 gp more for each bronze bar you smelt, over just selling the ores.  You’ll also get 6.25 smithing experience per each bronze bar you smelt.

Remember to NEVER smith any of the bars you make.  It’s just not worth it as a f2p player, and you’ll lose money when you do.  Don’t bother with an anvil and hammer, just keep on smelting for maximum money.  Don’t forget to sell all the bars you make to the Grand Exchange and save up the money.  You’ll need it later.

Once you reach level 15 in mining, you may begin to mine iron ore.  Keep in mind the the mines north of Al Kharid are infested with scorpions, so its recommended that you are a high enough combat level to prevent any injury.

Out of all the mines to mine iron ore as a non member, the ball sack mine, southeast of Varrock, is the best.  It has 4 iron rocks close together and is close to a bank.  World switch until you find the spot empty and mine to your hearts content.

Another important thing to note is that as you level up in mining level, you can upgrade your pickaxe when money is available.  At level 6, the steel pickaxe is available, at level 21, the mithril is available, and you may use the adamant pickaxe at level 31.

Again, once enough iron ore is saved up, go to the bank in Al Kharid, empty your inventory, and stock up on iron ore.  Go to the smelter, and begin smelting iron bars.  Keep in mind that iron has only a 50 percent chance of being successfully smelted, but it is also roughly worth twice as much experience as smelting bronze bars.  Continue to mine and smelt iron until you reach level 30 in smithing.  Right now, each iron ore is worth 260 gp, and each iron bar is worth 380 gp, so with the 50 percent smelting chance, you may lose a bit of money depending on your luck, but you’ll make it all back once you get to level 30.  Smelting iron is also worth twice as much experience at 12.5 experience a bar.

At level 30 smithing, now you can start making some real money.  Use the money you made selling all of those other bars, and stock up on as much coal as you can afford to buy from the Grand Exchange.  Mine half as much iron ore (again, use the Ballsack mine) and begin the smelting process, but this time, smelting steel bars.  Each steel bar requires one iron ore, and two pieces of coal.  If you wish, you can mine the coal also, or just buy both the iron and coal, in order to save time.   Each unit of coal is worth 280 coins, and each iron ore is worth 260 coins, making the total value of the ores without smelting 820 coins.  Once you smelt the materials, the resulting steel bar is worth 1100 coins, giving you a 280 coin profit, and 17.5 smithing experience.  Sell the bars you make, and use that money to buy even more ores and begin the process again.

I always keep an extra 100k ready to buy ores in case I need to make more money with steel smelting.   This is my preferred method of moneymaking as a f2p Runescape player.  There is also another way to make money with your new found smelting skills, once you reach level 50 of course.

If you wish, you can begin smelting mithril bars once you reach level 50 in smithing.  Each mithril ore costs 330 coins, and requires level 55 mining to dig it up.  If you’re not going to mine it, the cost to buy the materials for each mithril bar (1 mithril ore and 4 units of coal) would be 1450 coins.  The current selling prices of mithril bars is 1680 gp.  You only make 240 gp off of each bar you smelt, and it takes almost twice as long as steel smelting, which is in my opinion, not worth it at all.  It is an option if you want the 30 smithing experience per bar it gives though.

That concludes my guide to helping you low level players make easy money at a low level.  See ya in the smithy next time.
