Protecting Your Runescape Account from Hackers

Your Runescape Password and Recovery Questions
The number one tip I can give you is - never give out your Runescape password to anyone, including Jagex! Jagex will never ask for your password, so don’t be fooled if you receive an email or find a site that looks official. Be sure to pick a Runescape password that someone wouldn’t normally think of off the top of their head that relates to you. It should be hard to figure out but something you can at least remember. This also means that you shouldn’t use the same password for Runescape as for other sites. Your password should also contain letters and numbers to make it even harder to guess at. For example, “10wny0ul4wl” would probably be a good password to choose (don’t use this example). Choosing a password such as your first name may get you hacked, especially with password cracking programs on the market nowadays.
You can follow the same advice when choosing your Runescape recovery questions. They should simply be memorable, but won’t do you any good if someone else knows them. After all, your recovery questions are your last line of defense if your Runescape account gets hacked. They shouldn’t be so general that they are the actual reason why your Runescape account gets hacked.
Your Runescape Bank PIN
Some people prefer not to have a bank PIN since it can get annoying to enter those same four numbers just to access your bank account. But trust me, it’s well worth it in the long run. It’s especially true if a Runescape hacker somehow gets onto your account and can’t steal all your valuables because your bank account is safe. So when you’re setting a bank PIN, don’t make it the year you were born in, your home address, etc. It should be harder to figure out so that you have a lower chance of someone taking out all of your items from your bank account. Treat your Runescape Bank PIN as you would your real life bank account PIN, as it make it unique and don’t tell anyone about it.
Downloading With Caution
Don’t download anything without being sure it’s safe. You may come across a program for Runescape such as a ghost mouse that will train your account while you are away. First of all, Jagex can easily track this program and you are almost guaranteed to be banned for macroing. Plus, the author of the program may have a trojan or keylogger hidden within the download which can steal your Runescape password or personal details.
To avoid installing spyware or other unwanted items by accident, you can download certain programs or internet addons that will keep your computer safe for free. I personally use KeyScrambler Personal, Windows Live OneCare, McAfee SiteAdvisor, and even the Yahoo Toolbar, which provides the basic Anti-Spy. Try to have a virus scan at least once a week to keep your computer the safest as possible. If you’re using a Windows PC, I also advise you to go to the Microsoft Windows Update site so that you have the latest critical update, security fixes, and software downloads.
Other Tips
If someone is trying to hack or scam you on Runescape, you have a few options. The best choice is to report the person for whatever rule they broke and hopefully he or she will learn a valuable lesson. But if that person continues to bother you, you can always switch worlds or put that person on your ignore list and smile at their character sweetly.

This is definitely true, I know people who are hacked and they lose everything. I haven’t been hacked since I have played and I have a bank pin just in case. I agree it is annoying to enter the pin, especially when I get logged out and have to enter it again, but it really is useful against hackers. And definitely don’t download autoers, they usually contain viruses and keyloggers, that is how people get hacked. Great post and good advice.
