Quest for the Fire Cape (Part 1)
Several months ago, I set out on a quest to obtain a Fire Cape, the icon of the mightiest of warriors. The only thing stopping me was the minimum requirement of Level 70 Ranged. Admittedly, that skill was one of my most neglected stats, and in spite of my interest in obtaining the cape, I still took my time in training it. This, of course, resulted in phase one of my goal becoming painstakingly slow. No matter, I still was able to gather momentum during my last two level ups, and eventually reached Level 70.
It was then that I started reading numerous Fire Cape guides in an attempt to learn about the final and most nerve-racking task ahead of me. I was even desperate enough to watch several YouTube videos of players battling the ferocious Level 702 TzTok-Jad.
As if that wasn’t already enough, I also decided to go for a practice run in the Fight Caves, in order to get used to the area’s many features, such as the “Italy Rock”, a landmark which would play a significant part in battling those fiery demons.
I also spent quite a bit of time gathering the necessary equipment for the fight. I got everything from the Black Dragonhide armour I was previously unable to wear, to ammunition for my new Karil’s X-Bow. It had cost me quite a bit too; those bolt racks certainly didn’t come cheaply.

Finally, my preparations were complete, and a date to embark on this almost-suicidal struggle had been selected.
Still anxious when the day arrived, I reluctantly stepped inside the caves, hoping against hope that my armour would withstand the simultaneous assaults of 63 waves of monsters.
I sustained minimal damage during the first 20 rounds or so, easily outmaneuvering the foul beasts. But as the battles progressed, their strength steadily increased, which, accompanied with several acts of carelessness, gradually whittled away my hitpoints. Despite my initial misgivings, I was still not one to give up so easily. I braved through the demons’ onslaught, with my mind completely fixed on systematically shooting them down to minimize hitpoint loss.

The arrival of the Level 360 Ket-Zeks also didn’t do much to dampen my morale. Gulping down a dose of Prayer potion, and then activating my Protect against Magic Prayer, I fought on, mercilessly cutting down horde after horde of enemies.

My confidence grew. And then it happened.
As I was on my 54th wave, trying to neatly finish off a lone surviving monster, my screen suddenly froze. Seconds later, the unexpected lag was then accompanied with the dreaded black rectangle and white text. My hopes in meeting and defeating the powerful Jad were now as dead as the first 53 waves of demons I had slain.

Logging back in confirmed the fears which I already knew were inevitable; no longer was my avatar in the midst of a fiery battleground. I was now standing outside the Fight Caves, with some Tokkul in my inventory. The fight was over. A technical error had cost me over two hours of focus and at least half a million gp in supplies.
Although completely devastated, I decided to make a second attempt to win the Fire Cape later that evening. This too, was met with failure, due to another momentary connection loss of my wireless router.
Disappointment and frustration set in.
I was, and still am, appalled that my efforts came to naught because of something so ridiculously unlucky and stupid. But I stand by my earlier point about me not being one who easily gives in to setbacks. I remain as determined as ever in getting that piece of armour, which will make me the epitome of the most fearless of fighters upon wielding it.
My quest for the Fire Cape has met with two major mishaps, but the struggle is not over yet. I will have that cape in the end.
The story WILL continue!
