Runescape Clan Wars - Defensive Tanking in Arenas
Defensive tanking in Runescape clan wars is a useful strategy to use. It annoys the opponent, and usually makes them keep trying to attack you while your teammates kill them without taking any damage. The only setback to defensive tanking is that you rarely get a chance yourself to attack the opponent.
Tanking in the Various Arenas
There are five different arenas in clan wars, each of them in which you can tank defensively. Each has it’s own advantages and disadvantages to tanking.
NOTE: In the diagrams below, red indicates the enemy’s movements, blue indicates your’s.
Runescape Clan Wars Classic
This arena is a good place to tank. Not brilliant, nor is it bad, but just plainly good. There are two main places where you can tank here.
The first one is right outside your portal:

Here, it is a one on one arena. Tanking isn’t much use here unless you want a teammate to help you by attacking your opponent instead of you, or you just want to annoy the opponent. You can do a similar way of tanking wherever you find these rocks. The second one is around the barriers scattered over this arena:

This is a multi zone, where you can effectively use your tanking to lure many or all of the opponents into attacking you whilst your teammates effectively destroy them. The one setback here is if there is a mage or ranger, your tanking is pretty much useless unless your teammates immediately kill the mage/ranger or you use a protect prayer.
Plateau
The plateau is also a brilliant place to tank, as it actually nearly stops rangers from getting to you. To attack you in this arena, the rangers have to go around the rock, just like the warriors do. This may not apply in a few cases, but it usually does. However, this is also a multi arena, so you need to watch your health and prayer points.

All you need to do is run around to the other side of the rock whenever your opponent attempts to run over to your side.
Blasted Forest
The blasted forest is a completely one on one arena, so there’s not much point tanking here. However, you could tank if you merely want to annoy the opponent or if you want your teammate to attack the opponent instead of you.

Firstly, you can tank around the trees. There a plenty of them around this arena, and the concept of tanking here is similar to the one in the plateau.

You can also tank around the large “graveyard” area, but I don’t recommend this as it can quickly waste your run energy.
Forsaken Quarry
In the Forsaken Quarry, there are plenty of rocks scattered around, making it a good place to tank. However, as mages or rangers can actually attack over the rocks in this arena, it is suggested that you or your team kill them first before you attempt to tank the warriors.

First off, you can tank around the rocks. Just run around them whenever your opponent attempts to attack you.

You can also go around the “graveyard” area, but this will rapidly deplete your run energy.
Turrets
Lastly, there’s the Turrets arena. This can be called a “tanker’s paradise”. Everywhere you look, there’s places where tankers can take advantage of. Tankers here can hold off mages, rangers and warriors for an extended period of time.

First off, there’s the steps. Whilst magers and rangers can still get you here, you can easily tank out warriors, simply by running up and down the stairs and to either side of them.

Secondly, there’s the barriers. Magers and rangers have to run around these to get you, making them the same effective as warriors. Therefore, you can easily tank all three combat types out around these barriers.
