Runescape F2P Mining and Smithing Guide

Why should you train mining? Mining is commonly recognized as one of the most boring skills to level, but I disagree. If you’re close enough to a bank, a furnace, and an anvil, it can be a profitable skill to raise. Mining is a skill that should be trained in tandem with Smithing because once you mine an ore, you can smith it into something you can use or sell. Most people don’t bother with making their own armor, but rather pay exorbitant amounts for it on the Grand Exchange. Considering that you can get your armor for free if you take the time to make it, I don’t understand why people pay.

The most important part of mining is finding a nice spot close to a bank. That way, once your inventory is full, you can go to the bank to dump your ores and hurry back out to mine without wasting time. But a big problem that I’ve found is that it takes too long to smith your ores into bars, and the furnaces are too far from anvils. For example, if you mine in the areas by Lumbridge Swamp, you’ll have to go all the way up the 3-story castle to get to the bank. When you’re mining/smithing in bulk, it gets to be a little tedious. The nearest available anvil is all the way in Varrock. If you can’t teleport, the run seems to take forever.

But don’t despair! There’s a place where a mining site, a furnace, and an anvil all exist in happy harmony-with a bank smack dab in the middle! The place I’m talking about is Falador. For the anvil, though, a little work needs to be done before you can access it, and you need to have at least level 15 mining. Follow the road north out of Falador and hang a left at the crossroads with the musician. If you follow the yellow brick road, you’ll come across a little hut with a plot of grain right next to it. Speak to the dwarf inside and you’ll find that he’ll let you use his anvil if you mine him a few ores first. The ideal place to mine these ores is in a spacious cave right underneath Falador. You can find the entrance in the northwestmost corner of town, right next to the Party Room. There’s a set of stairs leading down. Take your pickaxe and mosey on over!

All the ores that Doric the Dwarf requires you to mine can be found right here in the cave. It also makes an ideal training place to mine because once you hit level 60, it would seem that you’re right on the doorstep of the Mining Guild. They have an extensive amount of coal rocks, so for once, competition won’t be fierce to get the coal first. The only downside to this cave is that there are King Scorpions (Level 32) that attack any player, regardless of level, if they get close. Needless to say, this can be seriously annoying. To counteract this, all you need to do is run around the rock that you’re mining and leave the scorpion stranded on the other side while you mine in peace.

The bank is right across from the garden and right up the road from the furnace. When you finish the mining portion, hop on over to the furnace and smelt all your ores. Then, of course, feel free to go to Doric’s and make loads of armor and weapons. When you’re all done, you can go to Varrock and sell everything that you aren’t using on the Grand Exchange.

Um the scorpians only attack you when you are lower than level 65. After that they stop attacking you
