RuneScape VS World Of Warcraft

RuneScape started off with plain graphics, without much detail, but that didn’t seem to bother many RuneScape players because graphics aren’t everything in the game, it’s all about the game play. RuneScape offers a huge world full of various monsters, large cities, different skills, quests, with thousands of players from all around the world. This game gives us a chance to interact with people from Canada, the UK, Australia, US, Mexico, and much more. You can train skills such as Magic, Construction, Herblore, or do quests. If not, then you can sit around chatting with your friends in Varrock Center and play around with the emotes. No matter what, there’s always something to do in RuneScape.

Many people would compare RuneScape with World of Warcraft. They would argue that World of Warcraft is better than RuneScape because of the graphics. World of Warcraft is a similar game as RuneScape but overall more complicated than RuneScape. It has millions of players from around the world, just like RuneScape. Here I will explain differences in both games and let you decide which game is better.

World of Warcraft (WoW) was created by Blizzard Entertainment. When you first take a look at the game it looks really exciting. The graphics are what brings you into the game. The thing is for World of Warcraft when you first sign up you get too choose which realm. The realm you choose is the one you have to stick with. Unlike WoW, RuneScape lets you switch between realms, or as known in RS, worlds. There isn’t a limit on how many times you can switch around. For WoW you have to pay an extra 15 dollars just to switch.

After choosing your realm in WoW you can choose which race you would like to be. There is Alliance and Horde, both offering five different races. If you choose Alliance your enemy is Horde, and its the same the other way around. You cannot interact with your enemy either. So if you have a friend on the Horde and your Alliance, you can’t communicate with them. Its the same thing if your not on the same realm as your friend.

In RuneScape however your not allowed to choose a race. When you begin your a human. Each character has the same journey, were as in WoW each race has a different journey, but its basically all the same thing. In WoW you have to choose a ‘path’. You’ll either be a Hunter, Rouge, Mage, Warrior, etc. You have to stick with it, and its your main way of attack. For example if your a Hunter you only get certain spells, certain armor, certain weapons, and are allowed to have a pet to help you in battles. Same goes for every other choice there is, but each is different.

Here is were RuneScape and WoW differ. In RuneScape you get loads of skills. You can train magic, or switch to range, or go to thieving. Were as in WoW if you are a Rouge, you cannot train magic. In RuneScape you can go fishing, mine coal, do some herblore, etc. In WoW you can only choose two careers such as fishing or cooking, and then do other things like skinning, or herblore etc. You cannot train every skill there is in WoW. You also have to pay your “teacher” in WoW just to get better in some skills.

Another difference is in RuneScape if you want to get a higher combat level you just train with monsters doing attack, strength, and defense. Were as in WoW you get very low XP just by killing monsters, so your forced to do quests. Yes there are more quests in WoW than in RuneScape, but that’s the only thing WoW is really about. You have to do quests to get some where in the game, were as in RuneScape if you hate questing you can just be a skiller.

Many people would go wrong to tell you WoW is better than RuneScape because they are both different games and offer different things. Yes the graphics are better than in RuneScape, but personally I prefer RuneScape over WoW because I feel there is more to do in RuneScape. WoW may seem fun in the beginning but then you get bored of it. The game doesn’t actually start until your lvl 70 in WoW which takes forever to get there.

I have to admit though, since the RuneScape HD update, I haven’t felt drawn to the game. The graphics aren’t what are important to me in a game, were as people who play WoW would say the graphics are everything. Jagex the creators of RuneScape are sitting there trying to make the game better, but at each update they only seem to disappoint. Players loved RuneScape because it was fun. It was fun to kill other players in the wild, it was fun to ‘merch’ items, and yes it was fun sometimes to scam other players. I miss those ‘cheesy’ graphics because that’s how I remember RuneScape. You would understand if you’ve been playing as long as I have. The only thing Jagex is doing is making the game boring like WoW. But that’s just my opinion. Many of you would disagree.

So tell me, would you prefer WoW over RS?

Interesting article. I’ve never played WOW, but I do remember my 2 weeks of trying out Everquest which resulted in terrible connections as well as just utter cluelessness as to what to do, why I couldn’t go certain places, etc. The tutorial in RS at least gives players a basic starting point of information to go on.

You also can’t really beat the cost of RS at $5/month. It packs a lot of bang for the buck.

    Shrimp782 Says:

I very much aggree with you. There is much more to do in Runescape than WoW. I don’t play WoW, but my friend does. It’s true, at first it looks AWESOME!!!! But then you look at the price… Almost $30 right off the bat. Then, after a possible free month, you have to pay $15 every month. I preffer RS mostly because of all that you can do, but I also like that you can either pay or not pay. I am a free-to-play player in rs, because I have alot to do besides RS and it wouldn’t be worth it. But it still serves it’s pourpose (purpose? pourpes?).

    P13808 Says:

RS is better. Some of us cant pay so much or have good enuf internet/computer for WoW.

    rshaven :) Says:

that was an extremely on the dot artice. runescape is a great game even though you do get bored from time to time but somehow i just happen to come back. i personally havent even tried the rshd and dont plan to.

    Pete Says:

Hey! I really understand what you said in the last paragraph. I remember the good-old days when scamming and pking were awesome and commonplace. I mean still you have the duel arena, fist of guthix, clan wars, and bounty hunter, but it’s not the same as the feel you get when you kill someone and force them to lose their stuff. :) Ahh well…

charlone fox my account in runescape Says:

ye I agree with u Runescape is much better because there is alot to do there than in Wow all of my friends that quit playing runescape because of WOW had better graphic, but like u said it´s never about graphic, it´s all about gameplaying and I mean in runescape if you get bored shotting monster with bow u can basically just train mage instead or whatever u like. I´ve tried Wow, I liked it but for me runescape will always be my favorite game.

    dunom Says:

I agree with you runescape is more fun than WOW, im currently lvl 72 in runescape and level 26 in WOW im so tired of rogue and wish that you could train all skills, like you said gameplay beats grafix

    rybo1195(runescape name) Says:

this was a greatly writen artcle!
    iw ould definatley choose Runescape.
but here is the thing…..we are on a runescape fan site.
y would WOW player even b here?
so this is kind ofa biased survey/qwestion.
u r also a runescaper ur self as u said, so u leaned the article to runescape, telling more pros of runescape and telling more cons of WOW.
but it was a great article:]

    Tom Says:

Tbh I play both, On end game characters on both.
WoW is far more complex and is indeed worth the cost and more interesting etc.
But I love RS lmao its shocking.
They ruined it tbh thats why i quit but i still enjoy it because it is easy and fun and gear looks funny lol i personally want a range tanker cos they look good but hate quests and Bh fails at getting look so it’ll be boring and doubt i’d enjoy it, but once again its fun and simple.

WoW is different and there is alot more to do in it and its better graphics but so hard :S It takes around 3 months to pick a race, class and then level it up to end game. Then you spend around a year gearing up constantly with new content coming out meaning you need more gear =/ you need to learn to play your class and how to beat 9 other classes which have 3 specialities anyway which means u gotta learn how to beat 27 things … Boring tbh but addictive because the graphics and gameplay are so good ( freedom to move with WASD) I say, sort out BH, the graphics, maybe release a RS3 as a disk? :S then it would have better graphics and the movement possibilites of wow but the same fun of RS, i would constantly play that game and so would millions of others :L

    oh rly? Says:

Mhmm…interesting…WoW is much better than runescape on many different levels, the graphics, gameplay and have you added the stuff like the proffessions, instances (dungeons) etc. …what level did you get to in wow?
We have more quests ’cause ummm…maybe wow has a lore? And getting low exp from killing monsters…? wrong my dear friend….wow has something called instances where you get a group and kill monsters that give higher exp and are more fun to do..and yea…you mentioned something about “Nothing to do?” well there are instances, ganking, farming and raiding duh…in runescape what do you do? oh yeah…and we can create more characters on 1 account and wouldnt you be more honourable if you killed the opposing faction without getting spammed on how noob you are? and wouldn’t you have asked your friend which side he/she chose? oh yea and i lawled on the part where you said that runescape and wow were 2 different things…i believe they’re both mmorpg but i can see why you say that…runescape is too shit to be compared to wow

    xploding Says:

Runescape is better because its graphics are incredible! WoW doesn’t even compare, I mean, what idiot decided to make the mages wear RED on the quest where you march into the Fist of Guthix just so the Mongolians will see you and cite a revolt? I mean, c’mon!

    Squadra Rosa Says:

Yes, Runescape is SO much better!

    lulz Says:

Notice how out of ALL of the people here saying RS is better, only ONE has played WoW, and he got to a level I could get to in 3 days.
Seriously, it’s like you’re all eating hot dogs and saying they’re 10x better than cheeseburgers, but you’ve never even seen a cheeseburger, even though your friends, who finally had some of both, are raving about them.
WoW is a better game, graphics, gameplay, community, etc., all RS has is quest depth, and that alone is NOT enough to keep it up against WoW. No contest, WoW > RS.

    lord draker8 Says:

Yer i agree, WOW is awsome but runescape u have meore to do. but it still needs some work done on it such as guilds, grouping and a better way to get expeirience example a experience bar

    blue fang158 Says:

i completely agree with you it was so much fun when you could kill opponents in the wild and get theyre items, or yes even scamming. dont get me wrong, runescape is still pretty fun but common i want the old runescape back!

    Dirtydog00(RuneScape Name) Says:

Actually, I’ve played WoW and like RSHaven described it, that’s how it is. And I kid you not, it only kept me entertained for 37mins.

    Dennis Says:

wow is much better. and its said for peope who dont have enough money to buy a good computer i can understand.. buth runescape is just a crappy ripoff from world of warcraft

    Cunning Git Says:

i’ve played WoW for about 4-5 years… and a runescape player of 2-3 years.

i’d like to thank the writer firstly.

i can agree with all of the bad points about WoW, in many ways i can agree about the skills, talents, etc how runescape offers much more viability. WoW on the other hand has a much more advanced game engine for combat, all sorts of things that wouldn’t fit into runescape…

as an example, spell interuption… realistically, if a mage was to be summoning a huge meteor to crash on somebodys head (like that would ever happen), it may take a few seconds to cast. if that somebody ran up to the mage and bashed him in the head with a rubber chicken, or threw a dart at his face, he’d at the very least flinch, lose concentration and probably send the meteor into himself… or maybe just take a few seconds longer to cast the spell… or have no effect in runescapes case…

what i’m trying to say is that although the 2 games seem very different in terms of grafics, and mechanics, they have one major thing in common… addiction…

it doesn’t matter how long i have stopped playing WoW now… i will go back to it… i know i will… even though i’m sick of wasting my money and time playing it… the same can be said of runescape… i thought i was completely done with runescape when i started getting into WoW… but after 4 or 5 years… i have stopped WoW and back on runescape…

    i guess it’s like breathing… if i stop breathing i stop living… if i stop runescape & WoW… well… you know the rest

    Rc_d0es_Own Says:

I agree with almost all of you
WoW-players also often say that Runescape is for 10/13-year-olds.. which is NOT. the average age is 16+ and Jagex said they prefer the game to 18/22-year-olds.
they always just do take a look in a nonmember world in lumbridge where noobs ask for boysfriends, girlfriends and free stuff. They never see the highleveled, more matured community of runescape.
