The Art of F2P Runescape Mining and Smithing
Runescape Mining is the most common skill used in the terms of making money. Many miners try smithing what they mine in order to make more money. This guide will help those people to make the most of those skills in a 2 part series.
Part 1: Mining and Smithing Tips
First of all find a good mining spot based on your level, what you are mining, crowds, availability of other places (e.g Bank) and Dangers of the area. My two favorite spots are the dwarf mine and the mine close to Duel arena. It’s ok to say you got a mining level higher than it really is but make sure it is believable. Don’t be scared to switch worlds if there is too many people in this world. Don’t forget to store up a large amount of ores (or bars if there is a furnace on the way to the bank) before going to the smithing stage.
When smithing at a anvil i recommend the Varrok east anvils because they are next door to the bank. When smithing I recommend making short swords because they gain the same exp, but you can earn more money per bar (I’ve done the research).
When selling the items I recommend a speciality shop (You can’t rely on the G.E) and when going to sell the items take them in note form. When at the store make sure there are none of that item already in the player’s stock (it greatly reduces the price). If there is, switch worlds. When you can sell the items sell 50 of them and if you got more left, switch worlds to where there is none of that item in the player’s stock.
Note: There are aggressive levle 16 and 32 scorpions in the above mines. I am not responsible for any deaths occurred while in these mines. Enter at your own risk.
Part 2: Mining and Smithing Level Recommendations.
Mining Level: 1
Smithing Level: 1
Ok so your a noob at mining and smithing it’s ok you have to start somewhere all you have to do is mine copper and tin at the suggested mining sites or if low combat lv. i recommend the mine southeast of lumbridge and use the lumbridge furnace after mining and before banking. Then do the recommended smithing in part 1 (do what i recommend unless i say otherwise).
Mining Level: 15
Smithing Level: 15
Ok this where you start mining and smithing iron. You can mine it at Varrok South East mine as well as the suggested mines. To smelt at Falador Go straight from the mine (if mined at the Dwarf mine) or bank closest to the mining guild to North West until you see the furnace. The Al kharid furnace is between the mine and the bank and i think is the best place for only smithing due to it’s closeness between bank and furnace.
Mining Level: 20
Smithing Level: 20
You can stick to iron or you can mine and smith silver at the al kharid mine ONLY because there are no silver rocks at any other suggested mine. You can only smith silver into bars and sell them at the G.E.
Mining Level: 30
Smithing Level: 30
You can now mine the most important ore in runescape: coal. You will need to mine this for every major ore (iron, mithril, adamant and runite). You still have to mine iron as well as coal to make steel. Mine 2x coal then iron because that is the ratio for steel bars (1 iron, 2 coal).
Mining Level: 40
Smithing Level: 40
I will give you 2 options here.
1. Mine iron, coal and gold then smith into steel and gold bars. Sell gold bars at G.E and do the usual for the steel.
2. Mine silver and gold at the Al kharid mine then smith into bars and sell at G.E.
Mining Level: 55
Smithing Level: 50
Mine 1 mithril and 4 coal for one bar. Recommend lv.60 before going to mine mithril and then mine at mining guild.
Mining Level: 70
Smithing Level: 70
You are getting a high mining lv. now. You can mine adament ore. To smith a adament bar you need 1 adament ore and 6 coal.
Mining Level: 85
Smithing Level: 85
If you find this part useful, let me be the first to say congratulations on being able to mine the best ore of all: runite. The only place to mine runite is in the deepest wilderness in the middle. In order to smith runite bars. When smithed at a anvil, runite bars become rune items.

Hey nice site. However I dissagree with this guide. When using theas skills for money do not smith the bars. I have done the math. And nomatter what kind of bar you are using if you smith it into any thing it will be worth much less. but for training youve got the right idea!

The methods for gaining more money is not to make a profit but to reduce money lost fo those who still need a income.
