What is RuneScape?
RuneScape is a free MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), where you roam around a virtual world completing quests, slaying monsters, and interacting with other players from around the globe.
First released to the public on January 4th, 2001, RuneScape has been around for over 6½ years, constantly updating and attracting players from the corners of the Earth. With over 10 million accounts registered, RuneScape thrives and is seen as one of the most popular online games in the world. Made for ages 13 and older, RuneScape provides a filter to keep dirty mouths shut, many tutorials and trainers to help you learn the world of RuneScape, and player moderators to keep cheaters (In any way, shape, and form) out.
RuneScape is currently f2p (Free to play), though you have an option of subscribing to a membership in order to gain more content (Areas of play, weapons, armor, storage…). Memberships are available from $5.00 - $7.95 per month, depending on your method of pay. There are over one million member accounts in RuneScape today.
Why Play Runescape?
RuneScape is unique from other MMORPGs. For starters, RuneScape is played on a browser, and does not require any large, troublesome downloads. It also can run on the lowest quality computers, and while running does not strain your computer. RuneScape also has 15 different skills that any player can use, along with 8 more Members-only skills. You can shape your character in any way that you want, be it a magician, an archer, a strong defensive character, an high damage-dealer, or an precision swordsman.
This game offers many unique quests to complete, least of which will still keep you from being bored. It also includes hundreds of armors, weapons, items, skills, and functions to keep you busy. There are also special guilds which are available to anyone who meets the requirement to get in ( Such as a certain level ).
In addition, RuneScape is very easy to learn and get the hang of. Within a day you can be knowledgeable enough to know how everything works in RuneScape ( Everything that you need to know for basics, that is ). Unlike other games ( Which have so many functions that you’ll take days to learn, and even longer to remember ), RuneScape is smooth and easy to play with.
What to Expect in Runescape
In RuneScape, you can expect many bad players, though many good ones too. If someone says something to offend you, don’t get worked up about it. Just ignore him or report him! Try to act fairly and kindly to other RuneScape players, remember: “Do unto others as you would want others to do unto you.” Don’t ruin the RuneScape experience for others, just as you wouldn’t like them to ruin yours.
Beware of scammers and thieves, as they will try to trick you into giving them items or money. Always double, triple, and quadruple check trades with other players! Never give out your real information, your account information, or anything that would give them access to you ( or your account ).

Creating a Runescape Account
1. Go to the RuneScape website and click the button on the right side of the page saying “Create A Free Account (New User)”
2. State your age and country of residence. Sorry, if you are under 13 years of age it will not permit you to create an account.
3. Create a username. Keep trying if it says your name is taken, as there are over 10 million other accounts and any one of them might have taken your username.
4. Now read the Terms and Conditions ( I mostly skip it…Bad me! ), then scroll down and press “I agree.”, as long as you agree.
5. Create a password for your account, and read and agree with the Privacy Policy.
6. There you go, you’ve made an account at RuneScape! Easy, huh?
Logging On Runescape
1. Now that you have an account, go back to the RuneScape main page.
2. Press on the button that says “Play RuneScape (Existing User)”
3. Select High or Low detail. If for some reason you could not connect to RuneScape the last time you tried, scroll down and select your Java Version.
4. Select a world that you wish to log on to. Worlds with Yellow stars next to them are only available to Members.
5. Wait for everything to load. Press “Existing User”, enter your username and password, then press “Login”.
How to Play Runescape
To move your character, click on the place that you wish to move to. If you want to move farther than what you can see in your screen, there is a mini-map in the upper right corner of the screen, where you can click and a red flag will appear showing where your character is headed to.
You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to change the camera angle. Left and right to rotate around your character, and up and down to change from a ground-view to a sky-view. You can adjust this any time that you want to whatever makes you comfortable.
In order to interact with objects and other people in RuneScape, you right click on it to see your options.
For example, if you click on another player you will usually see the options: Trade With, Follow, and Walk Here. Trade with will request a trade with the selected player, follow will automatically follow the player, and Walk Here is an alternative to regular left clicking.
Take another example, a cow. Right click will show the options: Attack, Examine, and Walk Here. Attack is obvious, and will attack the cow. Examine will tell you about the cow. Walk here is again an alternative to left click.
There is a chat box in the bottom middle of the screen. Here displays system messages such as when you mine an ore, chop a tree, and also messages sent by other players. Here you can type and talk to other players.
EXTRA: Type Wave: or Glow: before your message to have it appear with added effects. Experiment with more command words for more functions!
Those were the fairly basic parts of RuneScape. Now on to more detailed parts…
In RuneScape, levels rank you. Each different skill has it’s own level, with a max of 99. The more you participate in a skill, the more experience you get. When you reach a certain amount of experience, your skill will level up and sometimes you will be able to do more things with it.
There are several basic levels of weapon and armor in RuneScape. Each one can only be wielded if you meet their level requirements.
To check what your skills do at what levels, go in-game, go to your stats page, and click on the skill you’re curious about.
Conclusion
Well, this is where I drop you, the reader off. I hope I helped. I know this guide may seem a little confusing, with some pieces out of place. Please help me by suggesting and correcting my article.
Good luck, have fun, stay safe!
