The Growing Runescape World Map
I recently came across an old Runescape site that contained what looks to be close to the original version of the Runescape World Map, and it just brought back a flood of memories, and reminded me just how simply things were back in the beginning.
I started playing Runescape in late 2001 when the Runescape map essentially consisted of Varrock, Lumbridge, Falador the very bare wilderness plus an assortment of smaller cities. Half a decade later Runescape’s world map seems to have grown exponentially.
These days to walk from one end of the Runescape map to the other is a quite a lengthy adventure, and to be honest these days I find myself teleporting my way around Runescape a lot more, where as I used to never teleport back in 2001 and 2002, before the launch of Runescape members.
I can’t help but feel that this growth and expansion of the Runescape world map is somewhat similar to the expansion of actual world maps by history’s explorers as they slowly grew in their knowledge of the world and charted their new discoveries.
It makes you wonder just if Jagex ever plan to stop growing the Runescape world map, is there a point where the world is just too big? Or are there many more revisions of the Runescape maps to come?

I feel jagex is always going to be 1000 years behind real time as long as they keep on working on runescape so if they keep going then in 1000 years there will be computers on it but still the monsters

They should release a version that is the same exact as the days of 2001, but not RS classic. It would be the same, but RSC would be restricted to the oplder players

Runescape sure was a lot better back then, I started playing October 2001. Back then everything took effort, now everything is just way too easy, Runescape has lost it’s magic, barely even seems like a medieval game anymore with stupid things like evil cats that kidnap you and a party room that drops balloons with prizes inside. =/
