To all new Runescape members!

When people become Runescape members one of the first things they say is something like: “Wow! This is so big! There are so many skills, areas and quests… What should I do next?” Yes, indeed, it may be a bit overwhelming. The world is suddenly several times bigger, eight more skills and over a hundred new quests! And that’s not counting mini games and such!

In this article I will give a few recommendations to make the transition from F2P to P2P smoother.

Skills
Let’s start from the skills. Which one to tackle first? I suggest Agility! This skill while not producing any money would help you overall by allowing you to move faster and freely in the Runescape world. Your energy will restore quicker and many important shortcuts will become available. The only difficult part is to get to the Gnome Agility Arena which is located far to the west. Ask your friend to walk you there or take one of these three routes yourself:

  • (if your combat is 50+ you may risk to pass over the White Wolf mountain). Walk north west from Falador, pass through Taverly and over the White Wolf mountain (beware the wolves and take some food with you). Next walk directly to the west from Catherby, between Sorcerer’s Tower and Ranging Guild, south of the Fishing Guild, over the bridge and to the gates of the Gnome Stronghold. Enter through the gates and you’ll find the Gnome Agility Arena directly to the north from the gates.
  • If your combat is low you can take a ship from Port Sarim to Ardougne. Cross East Arougne, go over the bridge to West Ardougne and go north west from there to the Gnome Stronghold gates.
  • You can also buy or make a Game Necklace (Saphire necklace) and use it to teleport to Barbarian Outpost. From there go south by the east shore of the lake, pass the waterfalls, and keep going south until you see the bridge over the river. Cross it and go west to the Gnome Stronghold gates.

You can safely train at the Gnome Agility Arena until level 25-30. It may take a while though. I would recommend getting at least level 20, so you could cross a log between Seers village and coal trucks. At this level you will also be able to use other useful shortcuts including very important Crumbling Wall in west Falador.

Areas.
What areas to explore first? Definitely the Seers and Catherby villages and the lands around them.

Catherby is the fishing capital of Runescape and overall a very enjoyable place to abide. You can fish, cook, chop oaks, willows and yews, farm and trade there. And it is just a few steps away from Seers village which is probably the most important member village/town. Woodcutting thrives there: oaks, maples, yews and magic logs are being banked in Seers. Flax field and bow string industry. Coal trucks unloading station. Plus a constant marketplace inside the Seers bank walls. It is possible to find an empty bank in Varrock in member worlds, but the Seers bank is never ever empty.

Quests
Within these 100+ new Runescape member quests there are a few which every player simply must do in order to play the game in full. These quests would unlock new skills, open new important areas, give the means of transportation and allow usage of dragon weapons. Here is the list:

  • Druidic Ritual.
    • Unlocks the Herblore skill. There are no requirements for this quest.
  • Fishing Contest.
    • Opens an underground pass under the White Wolf Mountain. If you can’t teleport to Catherby, this pass will be of utter importance to you. You need level 10 Fishing for this quest.
  • Lost City.
    • Gives access to the lost city of Zanaris with possibility to buy and wield dragon weapons (dragon long and dagger)! Very important quest. You need 31 Crafting, 36 Woodcutting and ability to kill a 101 level Spirit with your bare hands! Combat 50+ should be able to do this quest just fine.
  • Priest in Peril.
    • Opens the whole Morytania area! The members quest is very easy. Some basic combat skills will do.
  • The Grand Tree.
    • Gives you ability to use Gnome Gliders – the most convenient and reliable transportation system which compliments the teleports perfectly. The quest is not easy though. You need 25 Agility and about 50 Combat. At the end of the quest you will have to kill a level 172 Black Demon!

Finally, I just want to add that I personally envy new members. The first several months of membership are definitely the most enjoyable months of Runescape life. Exploration, adventures, new areas and friends! This is the essence of the game. Have fun and good luck in the big new Runescape member world!
