Upward Trend of Buying Runescape Gold
In recent times there has been so much discussion around Runescape gold and in particular Jagex cracking down on those caught buying Runescape gold so I just thought I’d quickly look into the issue to just see what the general trends for people searching for Runescape Gold have been recently.

As you can see, it would appear that despite Jagex’s best efforts at stopping the real world Runescape Gold trading that during 2006 people looking for Runescape gold was growing at a rate significantly faster than the game itself.
Now the above trend line is from Google Trends, but isn’t a real time trend line, it is actually delayed by a few months. I will be very interested into see effects that the recent Jagex announcements will have on the trend line. Though I was fortunate enough to chat with one of the marketing managers of one of these Runescape gold selling operations recently (when you run popular Runescape sites you get approached almost daily by different gold selling companies to place advertising on your site) and he said there was a slight downturn in sales soon after the Jagex announcements, but it was only about 10%, and not a big issue. So it would appear that Jagex announcements and subsequent banning did have an impact but not a significant one.
I really don’t know what to conclude about this trend, but I’m sure that Jagex have noticed and no doubt find it very troubling thus the warnings they have recently made on their site. So the question remains, will they begin to look for Solutions to the Runescape Gold Selling Problem?
Is this a reflection that the Runescape gold selling market is growing? Or is it more a reflection of the fact that more gold merchants are entering the market and investing more money in advertising and getting more and more exposure? Please leave your some comments of what you think this general trend can be attributed to.

Well, I think the main reason is that players become more and more aware about a possibility to buy gold. Both, agreesive gold selling marketing and Jagex statements played a role here. I remember, when I started to play Runescape 2 years ago I didn’t even know that it is possible to buy RS gold for real money. Now everybody knows! And of course some people would do it…
Runescape Haven » Blog Archive » Runescape Gold Selling and Cheat Ads Says:Another reason I think is in the effect of ‘rares’. Almost no one can buy them now - the prices are so high and unrealistic. I am lvl 1724 total and don’t even think about buying a rare item. Many people want to buy a rare and the only realistic way to do so is to buy RS gold for real money.

Ah, it’s great to read some insightful writings about Runescape after cutting through the clutter. I am also very concern about the increase interest in Runescape gold (which as of 8-20, has been continuing increasing). However, it’s somewhat reassuring that “Runescape cheats” have decreased dramatically, so at least some effort on JaGeX’s part is working.
I am surprised that you have yet to write about Runescape’s growth rate and the possibility of it becoming stagnant.
