Wild Removal really Needed?
Since the removal of the wild, Jagex have left thousands of the RS players disappointed. The wild was a great place to be in, as the old players remember, that were around to see it. It was a place of fear, darkness, and fun. Many remember the time where they entered the wild, carrying only but what they needed, and nothing of great value. Yet, many were so scared of seeing that white dot screaming towards them, and having to either run away or log out quickly. That was the best thing about the wild, is the fear, something that new players aren’t going to be able to experience, because we all know, that getting killed by an NPC isn’t the same thing. The wild was what many would say, ‘What made Runescape, Runescape’.
Jagex removed the wild sometime in October of 2007, and added two new areas called Clan Wars, and Bounty Hunter sometime later. Along with that, they added Revs, which are NPC’s, that look like ghosts. The Revs range from lvls 6-100, and attack other players, with the majority of them using magic.
I come to the questions was the wild removal needed? If so, why? Now some think that the wild removal was because of RWT (real world trading), and because of scamming. But before the removal of the wild, there was a lot of scamming involving the wild. New players would get called over by more experienced players and would be lead out into the wild, and killed for there ‘goods’. Jagex then added the ‘ditch’, going as far as the Goblin Village, to Varrock. The ditch was added as a way to stop new players from going into the wild, when they didn’t really know what it was. This stopped most the scamming involved, but was the wild really a place for RWT?
Real World Trading (RWT) is when people would sell Runescape Items for real world money. Most Pkers just liked the enjoyment of killing other players and earning their items, and the exp. You made a good profit off of it, but there could have been some people who did RWT. But isn’t adding Bounty Hunter the same thing? Bounty Hunter is considered to be the ’same’ as the old Wild. You kill people and earn their items, just like the old wild.
So this brings me back to the question, What the removal of the wild really needed? If so, why? In my opinion, the removal of the wild was not needed. Jagex hasn’t provided us with a reasonable answer to why they removed it. Yes RWT was a big problem in RS, but many players didn’t care. The players would just sit at a tree, for example for a long time. They didn’t really bother anyone, expect the skillers trying to get logs. Yet, still many complain about the real players cutting a tree. Jagex isn’t stupid, because of the things they have added into Bounty Hunter, such as the time limit, or the BH worlds. Why couldn’t have Jagex just made Pking Worlds, so that RWT was not allowed?
Maybe Jagex just wanted a section for this type of activity. But in the end they have left many players dissaponted. I myself won’t ever join in at Bounty Hunter, because I don’t really like the way its set up. Its way to easy to lose things, the place should be bigger, and too many people team up. The old Wild was somewhat like this, but in a more exciting way. Yes Clan Wars is a great place, but why couldn’t they have left the old wild, and still added Clan Wars?
We may never know, but this does make me think about the real reason to why they did it. The Wild will never come back, but its disappointing for me to see the wild gone, and Jagex isn’t giving a reasonable explanation. I would prefer the old Wild over Bounty Hunter’s any day.

I got bored after reading half of it. I really dont think that wildy removal was necessary.

I aggree. The wildy removal really wasn’t necisarry (how do you spell that?). I have played Runescape for about, oh, lets see about 2 or 3 years? Probably 2. For all you ppl who didn’t play that day, it was probably the worst day ever on Runescape. Everyone was spaming (example: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@@@@@@@@@EEEEEEEEEEEE, just random junk) and im pretty sure most people were swearing the most they ever did. I got reported for spamming and eventually a JAGEX MOD showed up in varrock square and everyone got quiet. Many player mods were there, too, reporting many ppl and shooing everyone away. It was definitaly the worst day ever…

(USING MY RS NAME) I kind of understand the RTW problem, but totally getting rid of the wild was a horrible idea. Jagex couldn’t think of anything else so they do this? Oh, and they’re not bringing it back because of killing and looting being an old MMO “thing.” That is simply what made Runescape fun. Sure, they have to get rid of space for drop trading, but I thought you couldn’t drop trade anymore? O.K., they have to make it majorly dangerous so people don’t bring items in to trade in. Why not put in an items governor that disallows bringing in items like every other mini game? What else can an RTWer do? Bring in sets of rune and use it as money? No, that can be made illegal. Really, they should’ve thought about this. Please contact me for any arguments of approval.

I used to play runescape, about 2-3 years ago, and then quit. I remeber the wildy, exactly how you described it, i didn’t even know they removed it. As a way of protest all the people who remember it should quit, that will get jagex thinking.

I agree with this article completely. There are riots everywhere now, and they probably won’t stop until the wild is back, so they will never stop. Even though pking was never my major source of money, I’ll miss it. It was the center of RS. Now, without it, I think RS has no center anymore.

Yes, i have looked into this topic to get the wilde back because i have been playing runescape for about 2 years. I never really got any items from the wilde cuz i got pwned by pure archers lol…but still…the day runescape died was 10-27-07….and as this article said it made many ppl quit. I even protested. All the boys in my class play it and 5 of them quit being a member because the only reasong to become a member was to have the best wilde experience…and as some one posted, there were many groups walking around spamming and protesting…but I truely think jagex wont bring it back, but i also truely think that the worst decision ever was to stop the wilde. Then to kill it more, they had to add bounty hunter….. then they had trading rules so there are no more drop partys…way to go jagtex…you deserved to be punished by all those people quiting member ships…i hope you lose so much members that you have to put the wilde back, because thats what made runescape a good game.

i remember the good old pker days. i loved the fear of knowing that some guy comming at me was probibly a pker and was going to blast me! ohh but the trill that came with it though! the thought of ‘anything can happen up here’ was what made it a good place to go and hang out with some school friends and team pk too. i had fun doing that! i remember pking one of my friends! he was mad, but he forgave me and we laugh about it now. but now…… the wildy is kinda…. dead. i went up into it yesterday, and there was almost on one there. one or two ppl. that was it.i remember how it was, and i wish it was back. i miss it. who cares if you died up there, as long as you weren’t carrying anything that wasn’t comming with you!lol! and now i guess its truly gone forever…….. i cant believe it. i still cant believe it. and now they have this dumb BH thing that i will never go to, only because its just a shadow of the real thing……….*sigh*

I’ve only played rs for like 5 months, but the reason I started was because I’d heard about the wild from my friends. I really wanted to try to survive out there, but I didn’t realize they’d got rid of it until way later. I’m hooked on rs now, but there’s no way I’m becoming a member. this is my way of telling Jagex I think they should bring the willdy back.

Why is Bounty Hunter so gay? They said they would make it 1 vs 1, but it isn’t because more than one person can still have you as a target and you can get teamed. And…..WTF why do you have to kill a stupid target kill anyone you want. RS is dead, unless we can somehow convince all the people and members playing RS to quit, and have no one playing it then Fagex would have to bring pking back.

Everyone is being a little sissy about RuneScape PKing, pouting about the Wilderness PKing removal. But you know what? It’s a game. Get over it. Why spend all this time ranting, rioting, flaming, crying, when you could just get over it. And yet, people say they quit. BUT THEY NEVER DO! They just keep on ranting and stuff instead of quiting like they said they would. Eventually, these people get banned. That’s when they tell all their friends about RuneScape and how it’s trash. If you are saying all this stuff about RuneScape because you hate it, that just doesn’t make sense! People who hate it don’t talk about it, don’t think about it, or anything! So if you say you hate RuneScape and you say things all the time like that and say how it sucks, you are just incredibly immature. Or it’s just that deep down in your hearts, you love RuneScape.

When jagex removed wilderness they runied the fun but saved the long term futre of the game. - You may disagree wit me but this is why they banned it.
d4rksw4rm Says:- Jagex were losing money because of RWT - the game was getting cheap, because lOts people would own millions decressing the value of the GP , this made the game un interesting to long term players as they would get board as they would not have 2 set themselves targets, another reason they were also losing money was that many players brought gold and paid for p2p with stolen bank accounts so they had to refund them.
That’s why jagex banned wildy but I think it saved the game and it now means jagex Can spend more money on updates the players injoy.

using real rs username.i miss the trill of going as far in as a free player could.am i pissed off they took it off?yes!but even if we somehow do convince Jagex 2 bring wildy back it still wouldn’t be the same!i know that some ppl might get mad at me but its still the truth!

On RWT and the macroing, which i hated , i`m pleased that its disappeared but , friends of mine who did RWT , actually did that in Varrock or Lumby - not the Wild. As i undestand it , you paid cash on-line and just a met a player who simply handed over the items to you. The gp limit has stopped that type of RWT. Meeting someone in the wild to receive 1m gp was no-go as there was no reason to be so far North.

Yeah defentily, I myself were a very experienced PKer. & yeah we would lure every now and then with the mayhem makers when I was a pure, then I joined L2K and Exiled, the best drag teams . RS will never be the same again, and it just ruins my child hood memories, I had so much fun as a kid playing that game just PKing all day on a winter day all bored. I had a headset and everything, this SUCKS . :[

I have played since ‘03 i believe. I had never used the wildy as a source of money…in fact i gave people their items back. But it was where i went to have a good time and listen to people make corny smack talk. Now its gone and so am i…i am beginning to play again but its not the same. i remember when hundreds gathered at varrock wilderness. Now when i walk by the only person is that black guard.

Even though pk worlds are here….it is not the same as the orginal pk. If u have noticed that atleast 1500 ppl have quit from rs just becuz they removed pk the orginal exprience ever! even though i was always dying it was alot of fun…now i wish it was still here becuz i own and not like back then i didnt know wat i was doing. i have tried bh and died with my rune(g) =[ its realy really boring.

Well just to share my wild memories I was a cook who was passionate about pizza making (I remember when they added pizza what a great day) well I always used to go to bandit camp for the cheapest pizza making ever it rocked. Then well runescape died people protested and I haven’t gone to bandit camp ever since. You know what I think the Grand Exchange brought the death of the wilde and free trade I remember being a noob and scamming a lvl 90 out of rune gold trim I got it for 10k instead of 1m ha ha ha. Now I don’t have the armour anymore (got Guthix) and I quit my membership while the loss of the wilde was terrible I miss free trade even more

Ok.. I understand by what you mean. I used to love going pking, but if they think that taking out the wild is going to stop RWT they were wrong. Now people do the 75k/25k trick and works out the same way. It takes longer, but there is a chance at getting really good loot by holding on to 75k and killing your friend who has 25k. Its so retarded. So i say down with PvP and up with the old wilderness!

I have alot to say.
Firstly the bounty worlds for runescape are made so you can pk anywhere in the wildy which is better than bounty hunter but it’s still not good enough because you still can’t kill noob (thanks to the combat bracket). And who cares about RMT as long as they got it without using a bot. And last is the only way to enter the wildy is to risk your item is the great thing about runscape. Games are not so fun if there is no risk and computer controlled characters well never be as good as a real player (playing against others is more fun than by yourself.

fences in varrock wild. RunScape do got pk worlds but its not the same. In PvP worlds
you never see people in varrock wild or mage bank.
